"Urumqi, Xinjiang" is a special plein air painting that almost did not get completed as I was questioned by the local police for possible traffic obstruction halfway through my painting efforts. Here in the heart of the city, I was attracted to the subject of modern crowds retaining their very traditional lifestyle and habits in which Uighur naan (local bread) bakers perform their art live and present them fresh from their oven for passers-by to savour.
